Alhamdulillah, the Greentech Apps Foundation (GTAF) team had an incredible experience attending the “Muslims in AI” event held at Imperial College London on October 26th, 2024. Organized by the Muslim Researchers’ Network (MRN) and STEM Muslims at Imperial College, the event brought together researchers, students, academics, and professionals united by their shared passion for Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Islamic research. It was a great opportunity to connect with like-minded individuals, share insights, and explore the potential of AI within an Islamic context.
The day was filled with engaging discussions, networking, and presentations from individuals across various academic stages and institutions. We had the pleasure of meeting inspiring individuals from Caltech, UCL, Google, DeepMind, and many more, all working on innovative projects related to AI.
One of the highlights of the event was hearing from Boumediene Hamzi, who delivered a fascinating talk on the intersection of AI and Islamic philosophy. This talk sparked engaging discussions around the ethical and theological implications of AI within the Islamic worldview—topics that resonate deeply with our own work at GTAF.
At the event, we were able to showcase GTAF’s work in Islamic education technology and the ways we’re using AI to enhance our apps. From interconnected learning to automated responses for user support, we demonstrated how AI can serve as a powerful tool in spreading Islamic knowledge and supporting Muslims around the world. It was heartening to receive such positive feedback from attendees who appreciate our efforts to integrate cutting-edge technology with Islamic educational resources.
Networking was another valuable aspect of the event. We connected with researchers and fellow AI enthusiasts, sharing insights and exploring collaborative opportunities to advance Islamic tech. As always, our users’ feedback and input were invaluable, reminding us of the real-world impact of our work.
We were also inspired by the Muslim Researchers’ Network’s mission to foster intellectual debate around AI within an Islamic framework. Their goals of exploring AI’s ethical considerations, educating on AI capabilities, and addressing how AI can be harmonized with Islamic principles align with our commitment to open science and ethical tech development.
As GTAF continues to advance its R&D in AI, events like “Muslims in AI” help us build connections, gain insights, and reaffirm our commitment to innovation that aligns with Islamic values. We look forward to continuing these meaningful discussions and collaborations, insha’Allah.
For those who couldn’t attend, we highly encourage you to explore the AI and Islam Research Group under the Muslim Researchers’ Network: AI and Islam Research Group. This initiative provides valuable resources, discussions, and opportunities to learn about AI from an Islamic perspective.
JazakAllah Khair to the organizers for this inspiring event. We’re excited to see how the Muslim community will continue to contribute to the world of AI, making strides in both research and ethical innovation.
