Ramadan is the month when the Quran was revealed. Therefore, our main goal in this month should be to connect with the Quran. Most of us want to read the Quran and complete it during Ramadan. But it can be difficult sometimes without the right guidance. That’s why a common question may arise ‘how to finish the Quran in Ramadan’.
We recommend you plan ahead and maintain it, as this can make your journey easier. For instance, if you read one Juz per day, you can easily complete it during Ramadan. In this article, we will give you some practical tips on completing the Quran in the 30 days of Ramadan. Let’s move on!
The Relationship Between the Quran and Ramadan
The glorious Quran was revealed over 1400 years ago in Ramadan. Allah Himself says:
شَهْرُ رَمَضَانَ ٱلَّذِىٓ أُنزِلَ فِيهِ ٱلْقُرْ
Meaning: “Ramadan is the month in which the Quran was revealed.” [Sura Al Baqarah: 185]
According to the narration of Ibn Abbas (R) and others, Allah descended the entire Quran from a place named Lawh-Al-Mahfuz to a place called Baitul Izzah in the first heaven at once. From there, angel Jibril (AS) brought the verses of the Quran in chunks throughout the 23 years of the Prophethood of Allah’s Messenger ﷺ.
Jibril (AS) would come to our Prophet Muhammad ﷺ every Ramadan and revise the Quran with him. During the last Ramadan of his glorious life, Jibril (AS) came twice. Thus, connecting with the Quran more during this blessed month is essential is essential.
Is it Compulsory to Finish the Quran in Ramadan?
It is not compulsory to finish reciting the entire Quran in Ramadan; rather, it is Mustahab (recommended). However, don’t consider it a reason to skip reading the Quran in these 30 days.
Al-Quran is the centre of attention of this glorious month and the sole reason for its virtues. Thus, Ramadan would become merely some customs and traditions without the Quran.
Therefore, you should do the Quran Khatam and learn the Word of Allah during this month to make your Ramadan fruitful.
Rewards of Reading the Quran in Ramadan
You will receive 10 rewards for every letter you recite from the Quran in sha Allah. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
مَنْ قَرَأَ حَرْفًا مِنْ كِتَابِ اللَّهِ فَلَهُ بِهِ حَسَنَةٌ وَالْحَسَنَةُ بِعَشْرِ أَمْثَالِهَا لَا أَقُولُ الم حَرْفٌ وَلَكِنْ أَلِفٌ حَرْفٌ وَلَامٌ حَرْفٌ وَمِيمٌ حَرْفٌ
Meaning: “Whoever recites a letter from the Book of Allah, he will receive one good deed as ten good deeds like it. I do not say that Alif Lam Mim is one letter, but rather ‘Alif’ is a letter, ‘Lam’ is a letter, and ‘Mim’ is a letter.” [Jami at-Tirmidhi: 2910]
However, the rewards of doing good deeds during Ramadan are much greater. So, the rewards of reading the Quran in Ramadan can be unlimited, depending on your sincerity and effort.
How to Complete the Quran During Ramadan?
There is no ‘one specific way’ to finish reciting the whole Quran. However, we can give you some tips that can be beneficial for you to do a Quran Khatam in Ramadan.
1. Make a Quran Recitation Schedule
First and foremost, you can make a schedule based on how you plan to finish the Quran. It is best to follow a Ramadan Planner to keep track of your progress.
You can use our Al Quran – Tafsir & By Word app and set up a one-month planner at the beginning of Ramadan. Besides this, you can also listen to the Quran recitations from many renowned Qaris in our app.
2. Attend all the Taraweeh Prayers
If you attend Khatam Taraweeh, you can listen to the recitation of the entire Quran. This is one way to finish the Quran in Ramadan. However, in this way, you will only be rewarded for listening to the words of Allah.
So, to gain full rewards from the glorious Quran, make sure to recite on your own. You can do it easily by reading 1 Iuz daily that the Imam will recite in Taraweeh.
3. 1 Juz/Para a day
The Quran is divided into 30 Juz/Para in almost every Mushaf (copy). The Hafizi Quran has 20 pages in each Juz/Para, so a total of 600. Hence, if you recite 1 Juz/Para (20 pages) daily, then your Quran Khatam will be done in 30 days. However, you should aim to finish it a day earlier as Ramadan might even be 29 days.
If you use other versions instead of the Hafizi Quran, find where the Juz/Para starts and ends and adjust accordingly.
4. 4 Pages After or Before Each Salah
If you find it difficult to finish 1 Juz/Para in one sitting, you can always break it down into chunks. Here are two tips for you:
- Recite 4 pages after or before each Salah, Or
- Recite 2 pages before Salah and 2 pages after Salah
Which adds up to 5×4 = 20 pages, i.e. 1 Juz complete.
5. Do As Your Local Imam Does
Another effective way of finishing the recitation of the Noble Quran in Ramadan is to match the pace of the Taraweeh Imam at the local mosque. Imams recite one and a half Juz/Para in many mosques for the first 6 Taraweeh.
For the next 21 Taraweeh, they recite 1 Juz/Para each night. So, in total 1.5 X 6 + 21 = 30 Juz/Para. This method takes 27 days to finish the Quran. You can also follow this method as well.
6. Make a 20-Day Plan (for Sisters)
Our sisters should make a plan to finish the Quran within a shorter period. Due to menstruation, they might not be able to fast or recite the Quran for a week or so. Thus, they have to adjust the number of Juz/Para accordingly. A 20-day Quran Khatam goal would look like this:
- 1.5 Juz/Para or 30 pages each day in one sitting, Or
- 6 pages after each prayer, totalling 1.5×20 = 30 Juz/Para, Or
- 3 pages before Salah and 3 pages after Salah
7. Recite As Much As You Can
Due to our busy schedules, maintaining consistency can be challenging. It’s normal to have some tiring days. Don’t worry. We’ve all been through them. Just adjust accordingly and recite the Quran in leisure time, such as at weekends, late at night, or during I’tikaf.
If you feel like reciting more. Reciting the Quran more and more is recommended. You don’t always have to set your goal to finish the Quran only once. Instead, your goal should be to finish the Quran in Ramadan at least once and then some more.
